Backpacking Australia – Noosa – Australia’s Best Kept Secret

Backpacking Australia.png

Just after Rainbow Beach and before Brisbane you will find the beautiful Noosa, an elegant seaside town that is extremely popular with Aussie’s on their holidays. Its location means its so easy to get to, beautiful sunshine and the perfect spot to get to Fraser Island.

We arrived in Noosa from Rainbow Beach and fell in love with it straight away! We stayed at the Noosa Flashpackers which is my favourite hostel on the East Coast, it was so glamourous, the facilities were stunning, it had a lush pool area, huge and good quality kitchen and the rooms were comfy! Flashpackers is set between sunshine beach and Noosa Heads but its around a 25 min walk to Hastings Street, the hostel has a shuttle bus which will take you to and from all the hot spots.

What did we get up to in Noosa?

Explored Noosa National Park

Definitely one of my favourite places that i’ve hiked around, Jen and I chose to properly go for it and do the route from Sunshine Beach up and round to Noosa Main Beach and then back to the hostel which was a good 11km! We had a picnic at Alexandria Bay (which we now know that this is a nudist beach), checked out hells gates and we were SO happy that we found the fairy pools!! We managed to spot the fairy pools as there was a group of people down there, otherwise we wouldn’t have found it. Climbing down to the pools was definitely interesting but we got there in the end and got to enjoy the amazing natural swimming pool that was formed by the rocks and the waves. With each wave it would bring more crystal clear water and lots of tropical fish, we had such a lovely time swimming and taking endless photos. Noosa national park has so many places to stop off at from beaches to dolphin watching spots and its also so well known that koalas hang out in the trees here.

Saw Noosa from the Sky

So we thought Noosa was pretty, but OMG its even more incredible from the sky! We jumped with Skydive Australia at the new Noosa site and we got such a good price as it was ‘wicked wednesday’ which meant it was only $195 for the jump. We booked this the night before so we didn’t have time to think about it too much, but wow, without a doubt, it was the most incredible thing I have ever done in my life! It was a stunning day and we could see Brisbane, Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island too, we were lucky enough to land on Coolum beach, a luxury which only 2 sites offer (so don’t be fooled when they tell you Mission Beach is the only place you can land on the beach).

Window Shopped on Hastings Street

We filled our days wandering along Hastings Street and checking out all of the gorgeous clothes shops and dreaming about the amazing restaurants and bars along this street, you can find some stunning clothes and bikinis along here and also stop off for some lunch in one of the restaurants, unfortunately, they are all out of backpacker budget but definitely check out Betty’s Burgers, those burgers and milkshakes are amazing! Check out the ice cream shop Masimos too, wow!!

Enjoyed Champagne Sunsets at Laguna Lookout

This was definitely our fave spot in Noosa, you could watch the sunset over the whole of Noosa, each night it was different but it was always so beautiful. The best way to enjoy it is to take some drinks and a picnic up there and enjoy the views and warmth, tip – get the pink sparkly bubbles from BWS it’s $7! Keep an eye out on the trees though, we spotted a koala one evening, it gets dark pretty quick so take a torch with you for that hike down lots of steps and try not to get terrified when a bush turkey jumps out at you, hey Jen & Janie?

Partied alllllll night long at Nomads

Remember the feet the next day Jen!

We had some absolutely brilliant nights at KB’s which is the bar of Nomads right in the centre of Noosa, near Noosa Junction. The drinks are cheap, the people are awesome and the music is on point for a cracking night out, DJ Romeo I’m looking at you! They do regular competitions, one girl won the kiwi experience in the limbo comp and my friend Nick won a skydive! After this shuts up head to Sogo’s which is the bar on the corner to continue the night. I’d love to tell you more about nights out in Noosa but I just can’t remember!

Enjoyed a sunset cruise along the Noosa River

IMG_4826.JPG

I have a thing for sunsets, have you picked up on that yet? This was such a good value evening, wow! So the Noosa MV Queen does a sunset cruise for only $10 and even better they have a bar on board! We jumped on the bus to get there as it was over by the marina and had a lovely time chilling on the river with a nice drink, just what we needed after a crazy night out the night before!

Popped over to Sunshine Beach

This was a lovely spot to chill on and theres a great tapas bar by the beach that does $5 tapas between 3-5pm and they are so worth it!

So in a nutshell Noosa is a must visit when you travel down the east coast, if you want somewhere that’s glamorous, beachy and beautiful but where you can also have a great time, its your one!

I stayed at Noosa Flashpackers for 2 weeks before and after Fraser Island and it was absolutely lovely! Cheese and wine nights, move nights, free shuttle, comfy beds and an all round lovely hostel I totally recommend! Other options are Nomads, YHA or Dolphins.

  • Visit Noosa National Park and go to the Fairy Pools
  • View sunset at Laguna Lookout
  • Chill on Main Beach
  • Go on a sunset cruise along Noosa River
  • Go on an Everglades kayaking trip
  • Go surfing!
  • Go to Fraser Island
  • Skydive!

By greyhound or premier bus, you’ll get dropped off at Noosa Junction, the YHA, Dolphins and Flashpackers do a shuttle service but the Nomads is just a short walk!

Hope you love Noosa as much as I do! Check out my other Australia Blogs including:
